As I look back on camps this summer, I am proud of the work and care that made them possible. I am thankful that God uses people, like me, to do his work.

A volunteer—an intern—impacted his life. All she did was take the time to notice him, to talk with him, and to encourage him.

After I put away all the English handouts and lesson plans, I feel like I can answer the question of my profession with more confidence.

The most important thing I picked up from this summer in this new role, was the importance of intentionality in connecting with staff and students.

While I was preparing to leave for Hungary this spring, one of the most frequent questions I received from friends and family was, “Why? Why Hungary, or missions, or an unpaid internship?”

What if everyone in the world felt just as strongly about reaching out to others with the sole purpose of showing them Christ-like love without a personal agenda?

It is always surprising to me how other forms of communication become so much more important when language disappears. I begin to see how a look or a pat on the back can communicate love.

The purposefulness behind camp and the care put into every aspect set the tone for camp as a whole. We were not just going to do a camp that was good, we wanted to do a camp that was great.

When I found out I would be serving at Summer English Camp 2017, I honestly wasn’t too sure what to expect. I personally am a big fan of my comfort zone, and a trip to teach English in Eastern Europe would definitely force me out of it.
