A Valley of Dry Bones

For much of my life, I lacked a passion to see people believe in Christ. I believed in him, sure, but I did not think too much about those who did not. The more I seek the Lord, though, the heavier the lives of others weigh on my heart.I see how he has given me everything I need. I see how he has guided me and sustained me. I see how he is worthy of much more than I could ever give. I see his grace that covers all my sin. I so wish everyone could see that. The passage I keep coming back to in relation to these thoughts is Ezekiel 37, where God leads Ezekiel through the valley of the dry bones.

“He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.He asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’I said, ‘Sovereign Lord, you alone know.’”- Ezekiel 37:2-3 (NIV)

This resembles my conversations with God quite closely. I ask him so often, “Will this person ever believe in you? Will they ever know you as I do?” I beg of him to save them, to open their eyes to who he is.But in the end, only he knows if they will believe. Then God tells Ezekiel to prophesy over the bones. He tells him to prophesy that they will have tendons and flesh, and most importantly, breath from the Lord. And he does. And they do.

“So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”- Ezekiel 37:10 (NIV)

A vast army. A vast army of those who the Lord has saved, by his power, using his people, in his timing. I long for this to be the reality around me, wherever I may go, whatever I may do. I long to see dry bones grow flesh. I long to see them inhale the Holy Spirit and truly live as God intended.Would you join me in praying for those who are dry bones laying on the valley floor? Whether they are here in Hungary, or in your own space, ask that God would make them whole and give them life.
